Benzyl benzoate glycosides from Oligoneuron rigidum.

چکیده
Two new benzyl benzoate glycosides were isolated from the leaves and stems of the native North American prairie plant Oligoneuron rigidum (stiff goldenrod). The glycosides were isolated as a mixture of benzoate and acetate esters, which were subjected to mild base hydrolysis to facilitate full structural characterization using LCMSMS and 1D and 2D NMR data.

Glycosylation in room temperature ionic liquid is demonstrated using unprotected and unactivated donors. Modest yields of simple benzyl glycosides and disaccharides of glucose, mannose and N-acetylgalactosamine were obtained in 1-ethyl-3-methylimidazolium benzoate with Amberlite IR-120 (H(+)) resin or p-toluenesulfonic acid as promoters.

A simple and efficient method is developed for the chemoselective one-pot conversion of ethers (benzyl, TBDMS and acetal) to the corresponding benzoates by zinc triflate-catalyzed deprotection and benzoylation by benzoyl bromide. In the same reaction, methyl or p-methoxyphenyl glycosides are converted into glycosyl bromides that are useful in glycosylation reactions.
